The East Africa Property Investment Summit

Billed as the foremost gathering of real estate investment stakeholders in the region, the East Africa Property Investment Summit brings together delegates from across Africa and the globe. The summit provides a space for professionals to discuss, debate and build solutions around the opportunities and challenges that are shaping the property investment landscape.

As Africa’s largest bank by assets and a key player in the Real Estate sector on the continent, Standard Bank is sponsoring and attending the summit, as well as participating in two panel discussions:

  • Kwame Parker, Executive & Head of Power Infrastructure, Stanbic Bank (a subsidiary of Standard Bank Group), will be part of a panel discussion on Laying the foundation – where the discussion will focus on how projects such as LAPSSETT and the SGR Railway will help unlock future real estate nodes, and how these projects are enabling developers to thrive.

The session will be moderated and presented by Peter Welborn of Knight Frank, with David Kinyua of Esham Park and Amyn Mussa of Anjarwalla & Khanna as fellow panellists.

  • Gerhard Zeelie, Head Real Estate Finance: African Regions, Standard Bank Corporate and Investment Banking, will be part of a panel discussion titled "Courting capital and deciphering the secrets to secure funding" which will look at the requirements of regional and development banks, and financiers, in assessing projects, and evaluating equity partners, returns, and societal impact.
  • A presentation will be delivered by Thomas Mundy, the Head of SSA Research & Market Intelligence Group, JLL, with Gerhard being joined by fellow panellists Abraham Muthogo Kamau of Miradi Capital, Pius Muchiri of Nabo Capital, Michael Mwesigwaof DFCU Bank, and Godfrey Tapela of the IFC-Kenya.

Other topics on the agenda include economic performance in the region, sustainable growth, brand and marketing, the retail market, architecture, city planning, and REITS and listed property. Breakaway sessions will cover a broad selection of specialist topics from the role of institutional capital in funding real estate, sustainable development and green building, to localising value chains, understanding the East African consumer, affordable housing, as well as a number of other trends that are emerging in the sector.
