Standard Bank one of the world's biggest
Standard Bank Group is now number 223 on the latest Forbes Global 2000 list of the world's biggest companies.
There are 17 South African-based companies on this list, of which Standard Bank holds the highest position.
The Forbes list is compiled using an equal weighting of sales, profits, assets and market value to rank companies according to size.
Companies in 62 countries are included and with US-based companies taking up 551 spots on the list, China 91 members, Korea 61 and India 47.
Last year Standard Bank was number 522. There are 307 banks on this year's list.
Jacko Maree, Chief Executive, Standard Bank Group, says: "Being included in the list is recognition that Standard Bank is no longer a predominantly South African company but we are now operating throughout the world."
