Standard Bank appoints three Deputy Chief Executives
Ben Kruger, Simpiwe (Sim) Tshabalala, and Peter Wharton-Hood have all been appointed Deputy Chief Executives of the Standard Bank Group.
Sim is currently Chief Executive of Standard Bank of South Africa (SBSA), while Ben and Peter are Group Chief Operating Officers.
Apart from me, Ben, Sim and Peter are the most senior executives in the group. Ben joined Standard Bank in 1985, Peter in 1997 and Sim in 2000.
They have increasingly shared with me the responsibility of managing and guiding an ever more complex and rapidly growing financial services group. These new titles reflect their increased responsibility. There will be no substantial changes to their current roles.
Ben Kruger is Chairman of our Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB) business around the world, including Standard Bank plc, the most significant banking entity in the group outside Africa.
In addition he chairs most of the senior executive committees responsible for the different risk disciplines across the group.
Ben is also a board member of Stanbic IBTC Bank in Nigeria.
Sim Tshabalala is the Chief Executive of SBSA, responsible for the group's banking operations in South Africa. In addition.
He is accountable for building and managing all stakeholder relationships. This is critical for the sustainable growth of a group which is rooted and headquartered within a very diverse society.
He is also responsible for ensuring that the South African business is run as the platform from which the African and international businesses of the group can be built, and for sharing resources in the pursuit of the group's overall strategy.
Peter Wharton-Hood is Chairman of our Personal and Business Banking (PBB) business across the world.
He is also responsible for coordinating our Global Wealth and Private Banking business. He is a member of the Liberty Holdings Board and Chairman of Standard Bank Offshore Group.
Peter is ultimately responsible for coordinating the activities of our banking entities in the rest of Africa and aligning our CIB, PBB and Wealth operations on the continent.
Peter retains responsibility for Group IT and is also accountable for the efficient operation of the group's various support functions. He is a board member of Standard Bank Argentina.
Please join me in congratulating Ben, Sim and Peter. As a team we intend to lead Standard Bank to greater heights.
