  • You can access financial information and perform banking transactions when you are outside of South Africa if you have activated international roaming,
  • You do not need to make a verbal telephone call to access your information.
  • You do not need access to a computer.
  • It's the most cost effective way to do your banking.

Do I need a new handset to access cellphone banking?
Most new handsets coming out in the market are WAP 2.0 enabled. Contact your service provider to find out whether your handset is compliant.

Can prepaid customers access cellphone banking?
Yes, if you are a prepaid customer you will also be able to access cellphone banking provided you have sufficient airtime.

Can anyone access Standard Bank cellphone banking?
unfortunately, the service is available to only Standard Bank customers who have an account that is linked to a Standard Bank card.

can I access cellphone banking while I'm overseas?
Yes, all you need to do is activate international roaming on your cellphone account. Alternatively you can use a prepaid SIM card from the country you are visiting and go to standardbank.mobi.

What if I want to transact on an account that is not linked to my card number?
You will need to follow branch procedures for the linking of accounts to a card number.

This is possible provided the accounts are linked to the card number.

What is WAP?
Wireless application protocol (WAP) is a technology used by certain phones, to connect to the 'Mobile Internet'.

How will I know if my handset is WAP 2.0 enabled?
Look out for the world icon on your phone menu, also known as a browser, (you can contact your service provider to confirm)

What is GPRS?
It stands for general packet radio service through which the "mobile Internet" sends and receives data.

I clicked a button but nothing happens
You may have lost your GPRS connection. Simply try again.

I get the following messages. What do they mean?
  1. Your card and CSP numbers were entered incorrectly.
    Some phones do not automatically set to numerical values. Therefore, you may be entering text instead of numbers. Make sure that the numbers 123 are displayed at the top of the phone screen. If Abc is displayed, you need to change it to show 123. This can normally be done by pressing the # key for two seconds.

  3. Connection has been lost.
    You may be in an area where there is no GPRS connection. Try to connect again.

  5. Unable to verify security certificate for this site
    Our Cellphone banking service is fully secured. If this message is displayed, you need to ensure that the date and time on your phone are correct.

  7. "Time's Up" or "session expired"
    Your Cellphone banking session has expired. This is an expiry limit set by your network provider. You will need to dial the string again and log in to cellphone banking again.

  9. Security certificate has expired
    Our Cellphone Banking service is fully secured. If this message is displayed, you need to ensure that the date and time on your phone are correct.

  11. Redirect to server
    This message shows on some phones. You can simply select 'Continue' to proceed with your banking session.

  13. "Time-out" after I have logged in
    If you have logged in successfully and you get this message as soon as you select a transaction, it may be because of the handset model you are using.
