How to draw up a business plan

Crucial to the success of any business is a business plan.

A business plan is a detailed overview of the current position of a business, where it wants to go, and how it plans to achieve its goals. It is a summary of a business's past, present and future.

We often ask business owners to include a business plan when they apply for bank finance. Consider that, in the same way as you would test-drive a vehicle before purchasing it, we need information about your company before we partner with you.

We have created a template that will guide you in providing the essential information that we will require when assessing your application for a loan. This template is merely a guide. You do not have to use the template and may write your business plan in your own format. You are also welcome to include additional information that you feel may be relevant or important. Customers using their own template should compare their business plans against the Standard Bank Business Plan template prior to submitting their business plan to the bank to ensure that all aspects are covered.
