Travelling abroad can be both exciting and stressful. This is why we offer a range of foreign exchange solutions to ensure that you'll enjoy your trip.

TravelWallet

When travelling in a foreign country, you may be concerned about your money being lost or stolen. We understand this and have come up with a solution: instead of carrying a lot of cash take a TravelWallet card.

A TravelWallet card is a prepaid MasterCard that can be swiped at MasterCard merchants. It also allows you to withdraw money in the currency of the country you're visiting at any ATM bearing the Cirrus or MasterCard logo. This means you can access your money 24 hours a day. TravelWallet cards are available in euros, US dollars, pounds and Australian dollars.

Benefits
  • If you run out of money you can contact the foreign exchange outlet where you got the card to load additional funds onto your card (terms and conditions apply).
  • Free point-of-sale transactions – you will not be charged a fee for using your card at a merchant. There may be a currency conversion fee if you pay in a currency that differs from that loaded on your card.
  • No monthly management fee.
  • Free statements available online, which can also be accessed from your cellphone if it has Internet access.
  • Your card will also be stopped and replaced, with the remaining funds, as soon as you let us know it has been lost or stolen by calling our lost card call centre on 0800 020 600 from South Africa or +27 11 299 4114 from abroad. Our call centre is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
  • Your TravelWallet card is valid for up to three years so you can load funds for future trips.
  • Register to receive SMS updates when you spend or withdraw money on your card. To find out more about this service, visit www.standardbank.co.za/travelwallet and click on TravelWallet account status.
Travellers cheques

Ensure your peace of mind with American Express travellers cheques, available in US dollar, Australian dollar, pound sterling, Canadian dollar, euro, and yen. American Express travellers cheques will be replaced within 24 hours if they are lost or stolen.

Foreign notes

It's always useful to have a few foreign notes on hand when you arrive at your destination to pay for things like tips, taxi fares and refreshments. Foreign notes are widely accepted and at some destinations are the preferred method of payment. Foreign notes are available in most major currencies.

With these solutions to help you, the only thing on your mind should be your next adventure. For more information, visit www.standardbank.co.za/forex or speak to a foreign exchange consultant at one of our foreign exchange or bureau de change outlets.
