Online share trading and information now on one site
Standard Equities, a subsidiary of Standard Bank, has teamed up with the South African subsidiary of London Stock Exchange-listed company Interactive Investor International (iii) to launch an online discount share trading and information platform for South African investors.
iii-Trader is the first South African site to provide private stock market investors with all the relevant information they need to make informed investment decisions and to effect trades on the same site.
Standard Equities, an established full service stockbroker that has offered online share trading since 1999, will provide the online trading platform. The iii site has been providing worldwide investment information via the web since 1996.
Michael Botes, Head of Private Clients, Standard Equities, says: "There are several providers with similar services to iii and there are online brokers, but this is the first venture that brings the two types of services together.
"This is the main advantage for both our clients and the close on 28 000 customers of iii, which is a top financial portal. At the same time it allows us to increase our client base and vice versa."
Botes adds that the technology and security behind Standard Equities’ online trading and other services is well proven and that they are being constantly improved.
"We see ourselves as potential market leaders for two reasons," says iii General Manager Tim Huckle.
"Firstly, we are offering private investors fee structures that are extremely competitive and, secondly, we offer the added value of relevant, up-to-date investment information.
Says Huckle: "Our competitors offer sites that are typically very short on information in order to keep costs down. We are able to offer the whole iii site packed with investment information as well as the trading platform powered by Standard Equities."
iii-Trader service will be launched on 15 January and can be accessed via iii’s website at www.iii.co.za.

Pricing
Fee per trade is 0.6% plus VAT with a minimum fee of R75 excluding VAT.
