Ashiek Manie appointed Standard Bank Retail Banking Provincial Director
Ashiek Manie, the former Deputy Managing Director of Telkom subsidiary Intekom, has been appointed Standard Bank Western Cape Provincial Director for Retail Banking.
Manie has an MBA in information technology from Bond University in Australia and has completed a senior executive programme at Harvard Business School. He has Bachelor of Arts degrees from the University of Karachi in Pakistan and Cape Town University; as well as a Masters in Education from the University of the Western Cape.
He has post-graduate diplomas from Witwatersrand University in information technology management for government and the management of the telecommunications environment, policy and regulation.
Manie has a sound understanding of the South African political landscape, as well as the information technology industry, which includes government information strategy plans, public-private sector partnerships (PPP), community development issues, and the changing dynamics in information technology.
In addition, he has provincial and local government strategic management experience, having served as a city councillor and having headed South Africa's first local government voter registration and elections process in the Cape Metropole. He also served as head of the RDP in the Western Cape Education Department.
He was senior manager in the Telkom Technology Strategy Division before joining Intekom.
Manie takes over from Ernest Ward-Cox, who is retiring after 40 years' service with Standard Bank. Ward-Cox was Western Cape Provincial Director since June 1995.
