3. Rand Travel Wallet (RTW)

What is the Rand Travel Wallet (RTW)?

When travelling you may be concerned about your funds being lost or stolen and therefore being stranded in a foreign country.

We understand this and have come up with a solution. Instead of carrying a lot of cash, why not load most of the money you receive from exchanging foreign currency onto a Rand TravelWallet card?

Rand Travel Wallet is a prepaid MasterCard card loaded in rand (ZAR) that can only be used as an ATM and a payment card in South Africa and is a safe alternative to carrying cash.

Benefits

Safety: The card is PIN protected for point-of-sale purchases, purchase and cash back, and ATM cash withdrawals, so even if the card is stolen it cannot be used. The card will be stopped and replaced as soon as the customer reports it to the Travel Wallet lost card call centre on 0800 020 600 from South Africa or +27 11 299 4114 from outside South Africa.

Convenience: Funds are available 24 hours a day and the card can be used to pay for goods and services and can also be used at ATMs throughout South Africa.

Free point-of-sale transactions: You will not be charged a fee for using your card at merchants. However there is a fee for withdrawing cash at ATMs in South Africa. Note that a lower fee is charged for using Standard Bank AutoBank machines.

No monthly management fee.

Keeping track of your transactions: You can check your balance and keep track of your transactions:

  • by visiting us on www.standardbank.co.za/travelwallet. These services are free of charge.
  • at any ATM in South Africa for a small fee. This fee is lower if you use a Standard Bank AutoBank machine.
  • by sending an sms to 34246 using a South African cellphone number, for a small fee.

4. Converting rand to foreign currency

At the end of your trip you may have some rand you want to convert back into foreign currency. To do this you will be required to:
  • provide proof of how you got your rand such as a copy of the transaction receipt you received when you bought your rand.
  • present your passport as a form of identification.
