Human resource development

Transforming the racial and gender profile of Standard Bank employees at all levels of the organisation has been a priority for many years. In 2000, a board-appointed transformation committee was established to focus on human resource transformation.

The transformation committee now oversees implementation of the charter as a whole and continues to report directly to our board of directors.

Standard Bank reviewed its existing human resources transformation strategy and targets at the beginning of 2004 to ensure the charter targets will be met and are sustainable in the longer term.

The revised transformation strategy has four key tenets specifically designed to meet charter targets:

  • to increase the diversity of the skills in our organisation in a methodical manner;
  • to retain the best black talent;
  • to promote targeted training and learnership programmes; and
  • to ensure that employee performance levels remain high and are reflective of motivated, well-trained staff.

This strategy is linked to the performance management system across the bank ensuring that the objectives are achieved by line function all the way to executive management.

We have published a detailed breakdown of our employee profile here.
