Highlights

  • we continued to advance our targets in line with South Africa’s Employment Equity Act and the targets of the charter. The percentage of black people at managerial level increased from 19% in 2000 to 33% in 2004;

  • our executives and senior managers participated in the 360-degree leadership development process;

  • we piloted a dispute resolution process as an alternate employer-employee dispute resolution mechanism to the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA); and

  • we introduced an industry learnership programme, the initial intake being 200 learners.

Looking ahead we will strive to

  • improve staff perceptions and positioning in market surveys on these perceptions;

  • roll out the alternate dispute resolution process, which is currently being piloted in Gauteng, to the rest of the bank;

  • develop a measurement framework to measure the value of human resources; and

  • implement a bank-wide e-recruiting system and career website.
