Ensure peace-of-mind: secure your home and prepare for your road trip

Everyone should have peace-of-mind when going on holiday. With statistics showing that criminal activity and break-ins increase during the holiday season, it is important to ensure the security of your home before leaving to go away. It’s also important to be prepared for the unexpected, if travelling by road.

Home security tips

Here are some handy holiday safety tips from the security experts, that can help give you peace of mind while away:
  • Ensure that your alarm is in working order before going on holiday.
  • Advise your security company that you are going away and ensure that you supply all the necessary information regarding nearby key holders, in case of an emergency.
  • Inform your neighbours of your holiday plans so that they can keep an eye on your property.
  • Stop newspaper deliveries and ask a friend or neighbour to collect your post.
  • Double check that you have locked and secured all windows and doors before leaving home.
  • Never leave a key in the inside of an outer door which has glass panels or glass near the door lock.
  • Sliding doors can be secured by placing a piece of timber cut to size in the sliding rail. Make sure that sliding doors cannot be lifted vertically.
  • Leave exterior lighting on a timer.
  • Don’t leave tools like ladders or spades outside, as they can be used to break into your house.
  • Display clear signage indicating that you have security, which also helps to discourage burglars.
