What is a Virtual Credit Card?

A Virtual Credit Card (VCC) is an add-on Mastercard Credit Card issued on your primary credit card or Real Card Number (RCN). There is no physical card issued for a VCC.

How do I use my Virtual Credit Card?

Since no physical card is issued, the card details such as the card number, expiry date and card verification value (CVV) can be viewed on your Banking App.

The card details can be used online for e-commerce transactions and for MOTO (Mail Order and Telephonic Order) transactions.

Do I need to prefund my Virtual Credit Card?

No. Your Virtual Credit Card is funded by your Real Card Number.

Why would I need a Virtual Credit Card?

The Virtual Credit Card is a digital alternative to using your Real Card Number for online purchases. It reduces the risk of fraud on your account and allows you to control the spend on the card.

What is Mastercard In Control?

Mastercard In Control allows you to enhance the security on your Virtual Credit Card (VCC). You can set the following controls on the VCC:

  • Transaction Environment control – Choose if you want to use your card for e-commerce and/or MOTO (Mail Order Telephone Order) transactions
  • Transaction Limit control – Allows you to set the maximum amount on an individual transaction
  • Validity Period control – You can set the time period in which transactions can take place
  • Velocity control – Gives you the ability to limit the frequency and total cumulative number of transactions (card limit) on your VCC within a specified time period
  • Merchant Category control (MCC) – Choose to use your VCC online at retail stores, airlines, hotels and for car rental
What do I need to create Virtual Credit Card?
  • A valid existing Mastercard Credit Card account
  • A Banking App profile
How many Virtual Credit Cards can I create?

You can create up to 99 cards and each VCC can be set up differently.

How much will I be charged for every Virtual Credit Card?

There is no fee to create a Virtual Credit Card.

How do I change the controls on the Virtual Credit Card?
  1. Sign into your Banking App
  2. Tap on ‘Manage’ and then ‘Cards’
  3. Tap on ‘Virtual Credit Cards’ and select the card you want to change
  4. Configure the controls on the Virtual Credit Card
How do I cancel a Virtual Credit Card?
  1. Sign into your Banking App
  2. Tap on ‘Manage’ and then ‘Cards’
  3. Tap on ‘Virtual Credit Cards’ and select the card you want to cancel
  4. Tap on ‘Cancel Card’ and ‘Confirm’

The Virtual Credit Card (VCC) will be cancelled immediately and cannot be reinstated. If you have used the VCC details for recurring transactions such as Netflix, Uber etc., you will need to create a new VCC and update the details on the merchant’s website/app.

Why was my Virtual Credit Card transaction declined?
  • You will need to check the controls on the Virtual Credit Card to ensure that the transaction is within the controls you have set.
  • Since all the transactions are authorised on your Real Card Number (RCN), you need to ensure that your RCN account has enough funds and is in good standing.

You can also contact us on 0860 123 000 or on +27 10 249 0423 for assistance.

Will I receive statements for all my Virtual Credit Cards?

No. Since the Virtual Credit Cards (VCC) are add-on cards on your Real Card Number (RCN), all your VCC transactions will be shown on your monthly credit card statement and payment will only need to be made on your RCN.

How can I see my successful Virtual Credit Card transactions?
  • All your successful transactions can be viewed on the Banking App
  • All the VCC transactions will also be shown on your monthly credit card statement

Will I earn UCount Rewards Points?

Yes. If your credit card account is linked to UCount, all your Virtual Credit Card transactions will earn Rewards Points.

Will I receive all the card benefits?

Yes. Since all the Virtual Credit Card transactions are funded by your Real Card Number (RCN), you will still receive all the card benefits such as travel insurance and purchase protection offered by your RCN.

What happens if my physical card is cancelled?

Since your Virtual Credit Cards (VCC) are linked to your physical card number or Real Card Number (RCN), all your VCC transactions will be declined. You will need to create new VCC’s on your new credit card or RCN account.
