Enjoy enhanced fraud protection with DebiCheck
Over the past number of years, debit order abuse has become a major issue in South Africa, with some companies processing invalid debit orders to customers’ bank accounts. DebiCheck is a new pre-authorisation system that requires you to approve and authenticate the debit order contract / mandate via our bank channels, before it becomes effective. Before authorising a debit order mandate, we will send you a message asking you to confirm:

  • Who is debiting your bank account;
  • When and how often your account will be debited; and
  • The amount that will be debited to your account.

Confirming this information will ensure that only valid debit orders for an amount agreed to by you are processed on the date you specify.

How to confirm your debit orders
As a Wealth and Investment client, you will be able to confirm the details of your debit order using any of the following channels:

  • Cellphone Banking (please register with the correct number)
  • The Standard Bank Mobile App
  • Any ATM that has a DebiCheck sign
  • Any Standard Bank branch / Suite
  • Dial the USSD code *120*2345#
  • Call WIonCall on 0861 001 052

When will DebiCheck be introduced?
DebiCheck is being implemented in a phased approach, so you may not be affected immediately. Initially, you will only have to confirm new debit orders going through your account – and you will only need to confirm your debit order information at the start of the contract.

If you have any questions about DebiCheck, or you would like more information in this regard, please contact WIonCall on 0861 001 052 or speak to your Relationship Manager.
