Funeral Benefit
The maximum cover amounts are as follows:
- R 100 000 for the main member and spouse
- R 20 000 for children 6 years old and younger
- R 50 000 for children older than 6
- R 80 000 for parents / in-laws
- R 50 000 for extended family
Optional additional benefits for main member and spouse at an additional premium*
- A maximum of R 20 000 for the memorial benefit
- A maximum of R 20 000 for catering benefit
- Up to R 2 000 for groceries, payable monthly for 6 or 12 months (maximum R 24 000)
To take out a flexible funeral plan:
- The main member and 1 spouse must be between 18 and 65 years old
- Children must be between newborn and 20 (24 if student) years old. A maximum of 6 children can be added
- Parents and in-laws must be between 18 and 85 years old. A maximum of 4 parents / in-laws can be added
- Extended family members must be between newborn and 85 years old. A maximum of 8 extended family members can be added
- No medical underwriting
- Option to waive waiting period when moving from other insurer's
- 6 months waiting period applies for all benefits
- 12 months waiting period for suicide
- One month waiting period for accidental death
- Option to choose up to 5 beneficiaries
Flexibility means that you choose what you pay!
- An additional premium payable per each person added will be dependent on cover amount selected and age at time of policy application.
- An additional premium payable for each additional benefit selected for main insured and spouse depends on level of amount selected, age at policy application and period of benefit payment where applicable.
- There is also an option to add automatic annual premium and benefit increase at an additional premium.
Standard Bank Insurance Brokers (FSP224) earns a binder fee and commission on the sale of this policy, at a rate that is included in the premium and is inclusive of VAT

What you'll need:
- Certified death certificate
- Notification of registration of death
- Burial order
- Certified copy of the claimant's ID
- Proof of relationship (like a marriage or birth certificate)
- Additional documents may be required for unnatural death claims.
Please note:
- Claims must be submitted within 12 months of the insured person's death
- Claimant's need to provide proof of their relationship with the policyholder or insured member
- Claims are processed by the Liberty Group once all information is verified
- Approved claims are paid out within 48 hours from receipt of all required documents and claim approval
